It is regarded as the place of the Bodhisattva Samantabhadraའཕགས་པ་ཀུན་ཏུ་བཟང་པོའི་གནས།. It has been an important Buddhist pilgrimage site for over a millennium and is still visited by many pilgrims and tourists each year.
